Police identify driver in crash that killed San Luis Obispo couple

On the early evening of Monday, Nov. 21, police say Daniel Angel Saligan Patricio, 24, of San Luis Obispo lost control of his vehicle in the 3400 block of Sacramento Drive and struck Matthew Chachere, Jennifer Besser, and their dog.

Chachere's parents say they were never told by police that the driver's name was being made public.They also question how the investigation was handled on the night of the crash.

Family members of Chachere and Besser spoke in San Luis Obispo Superior Court on Wednesday morning, asking Superior Court Judge Craig van Rooyen to reconsider his ruling to release Saligan Patricio without bail during his first court appearance on March 1.

 

Driver who hit, killed former Modesto couple and their dog pleads guilty to manslaughter

Detectives testified that Saligan Patricio had admitted to drinking alcohol earlier that day and was texting and driving. Data pulled from his car showed he hit Chachere and Besser at 61 miles per hour.
