Aurora: Police believe alcohol tied to fatal crash

A person driving a Chevrolet Silverado drove through a red light and slammed their vehicle into a Subaru in Aurora Friday night, killing the driver of the Subaru, police say.

A preliminary police investigation showed the Subaru was heading north on South Blackhawk Street at about 8:30 p.m. and made a left turn onto westbound East Iliff Avenue. The driver of the Chevrolet ran a red light on westbound East Iliff Avenue and "T-boned" the Subaru, police said.

Omar Cabera was driving on South Blackhawk Street around 8:30 p.m. when a driver that authorities believe was intoxicated ran through a red light and slammed into his Subaru. Cabera suffered severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries.
