Samantha Esparza, 17, was sentenced to up to two years in the Division of Youth Corrections, according to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office. Esparza pleaded guilty in January to charges of vehicular homicide DUI and misdemeanor third-degree assault.

The 52-year-old man killed when his motorcycle was hit by a carload of high school students was identified Tuesday afternoon.

The chief deputy coroner of Adams and Broomfield Counties identified him as Gary Melillo. He worked for Denver Public Schools as a facility manager at Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College.

The crash happened at around 3 p.m. Friday on the 7300 block of State Highway 2 in Commerce City. The crash closed the highway for nearly six hours.

Authorities suspect alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. They say a 16-year-old girl was driving a white Dodge Neon southbound on Highway 2 when she lost control and collided with a Yamaha motorcycle traveling northbound.

9NEWS has learned the driver of the Neon was driving without a license. She had a learner's permit.

Three of the 16-years-old teens, including the driver, were transported to Denver Health and were reported to be in serious condition as of last check Saturday.

A fourth passenger, an 18-year-old woman, was treated for minor injuries and released.

All four people in the Neon are students at Adams City High School, according to Commerce City Police.

A letter to parents from Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College was sent home with students Monday:
