A man and two children were injured after a serious crash in Gales Ferry early Sunday morning that ended with their vehicle upside down in a swimming pool and debris scattered all over the road. Police say Metcus Harvin, 25, of New Britain was driving down Route 12 in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard at 1 a.m. when he lost control of the car and struck a telephone pole and a traffic control box. The car then plowed through a metal guard rail on the opposite side of the road, and flipped over on its roof in a backyard swimming pool on Baldwin Hill Road. One child in the car suffered a serious arm injury and the other child has a fractured leg. Harwin sustained possible internal injuries, according to State Police. All three were rushed to L&M Hospital. Police have not released the ID's or ages of the children involved. The area will remain closed for several hours as State Police and accident reconstruction officials investigate the cause of the crash. Residents in this area may also experience power outages while the downed utility pole is being repaired.
