An Amtrak train struck and killed a male pedestrian in Fairfield on Saturday evening, according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials.

A pedestrian at the downtown Fairfield train station has been struck and killed by a Boston-bound Amtrak train.

The victim is a white man in his 50s whose identity has not been released, according to Lieutenant Keith Broderick of the Fairfield Police.

No crew members or any of the 185 passengers aboard the train were injured.
The accident happened on Saturday at the Fairfield station at about 6:27 p.m. The pedestrian was struck by a Boston-bound Amtrak train, and may have been trying to climb back up on the platform from the tracks at the time.
