A Norwalk man riding a motorcycle on Interstate 95 just before midnight Sunday in Stamford was killed when he drove into a construction vehicle.
A Norwalk man riding a motorcycle on Interstate 95 just before midnight Sunday in Stamford was killed when he drove into a construction vehicle. Armando Barrera, 38, of 77 Benedict St., Norwalk, was killed instantly in the crash, according to State Police. Trooper Kelly Grant said Barrera struck a construction truck while riding his motorcycle at 11:50 p.m., was thrown off the bike and then struck by another vehicle. The incident occurred in the northbound lanes, just before exit 9. The construction truck hit by Barrera was one of several vehicles in the left lane moving slowly northbound before exit 9. The vehicles were being used to close the left side of the highway in order for rumble strips to be installed along the shoulder. Barrera crashed into the right rear of the truck, according to a news release from state police. After being thrown from the motorcycle, Barrera was struck by a Toyota Highlander being driven in the center lane by another Norwalk man. Meanwhile, the riderless motorcycle veered right and crashed into a concrete wall along the right shoulder of the highway. Barrera was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
