A Stamford woman was hit by a sport utility vehicle Saturday morning, while she and her husband were having car troubles. She later died at Stamford Hospital as a result of her injuries.

A 32-year old Stamford man was charged with misconduct with a motor vehicle after police say he fell asleep behind the wheel of his car last month and struck two pedestrians in the roadway, killing one of them.
Drowsy Driver Charged in Fatal Hit and Run
A driver, who fell asleep at the wheel and struck a husband and wife who’s vehicle had run out of gas, is now being blamed for the woman’s death, after he fled the scene of the accident.
The accident occured around 7:30 am on Hope Street, just south of Hyde Street. Police say a 1986 Chevrolet food vending truck was driving northbound on Hope Street toward Hyde Street, when it became partially disabled in the northbound lane. The driver, Rafael Escobar, 27 year-old Stamford resident, was putting gas in the truck while his wife, Angela Lopez, 34 year-old Stamford resident, stood next to him on the travel side of the northbound lane. A 2003 Ford Explorer was traveling southbound on Hope Street when it crossed over the double yellow line and hit both people standing next to the truck. Victor Medina-Fajardo, 32, of 873 Washington Blvd Stamford, Conn., was the operator of that vehicle. The woman that was struck sustained serious injuries. She was sent by Stamford Emergency Medical Service to Stamford Hospital’s Trauma Room. Police say the woman succumbed to her injuries later this morning. Police have not released the identity of the victim at this time. Her husband who was also struck by the vehicle, was admitted to Stamford Hospital in stable condition. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
