Stephen Elaesser, Jr., 82, killed in scooter crash with driver Nimesh Patel, 32, on Immokalee Road in Collier County, Florida

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- One person is dead and another driver is facing charges after paying attention to his electronic device instead of the road. Troopers say he was distracted by an electronic device. The driver of the car that rear-ended the scooter, 32-year-old Nimesh Patel of New Hyde Park, New York, was charged with careless driving. That's when FHP say he was run over by a northbound car that had swerved to avoid other slowing traffic. The collision knocked Elaesser, who was wearing a helmet, off the scooter and onto the roadway.
