Crom was an occasional contributor to The Sun and was a son of the late Theodore Crom, who has been heralded as the man who invested time and money to preserve the historic clock that for more than 30 years has stood sentinel over the intersection of Northeast First Street and East University Avenue.
A Hawthorne man was killed Saturday night after he was hit by an SUV on a Putnam County road. Brady Leigh Crom, 63, was struck by an Isuzu Trooper driven by Laura A Ford, 40, about 9 p.m. on Florida 26 at Grove Street in Putnam County. Crom died at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Ford wasn’t injured. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
