Kimberly Marshall, 50, killed, and Gerald Balenger Jr., 49, injured in car collision on State Road 44 in Lake County, Florida

A DeLand woman was killed and a Sorrento man hurt in a crash on State Road 44 in Lake County early Thursday evening, troopers say. The driver of the Echo, Kimberly Marshall, 50, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, FHP said. That's when a 2001 Toyota Echo traveling north on S.R. 44 tried to make a left turn onto Highland Lakes Road and turned into the path of the Tacoma, troopers said. Just after 5:30 p.m., a 2015 Toyota Tacoma driven by Gerald Balenger Jr. was headed south on S.R. 44 near the intersection of Highland Lakes Road, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
