Don Volkman, 44, killed, after he is struck by a car, driven by a 26-year-old female that fled the scene, while riding his bicycle at the intersection of East Colonial Drive and Hamilton Avenue in Orlando.

Orlando police and the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal accident that killed a bicyclist in Downtown Orlando Friday night.

Officers say a blue Honda was traveling west on East Colonial Drive just before 10:00 p.m. As the driver approached the intersection at Hamilton Avenue, 44-year-old Don Volkman was attempting to cross at the crosswalk with his bicycle. Investigators say the Honda struck Volkman and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver initially fled the scene, but did return while officers were investigating. The driver's name is not being released at this time, but officers are saying the driver is a 26-year-old female.

This is an ongoing investigation. Charges are pending as investigators work to determine if alcohol was a factor.
