FHP: Teen, woman dead in Interstate 95 crash in Flagler County
A teen and a 56-year-old woman were killed in a crash that happened Saturday along Interstate 95 in Flagler County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at 5:25 p.m. Saturday on I-95 southbound near mile marker 288.
Troopers said Roy White, 38, was driving his 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 northbound on I-95 and for an unknown reason drifted in a north-easterly direction onto the east shoulder.
White overcorrected his truck and traveled across the northbound I-95 travel lanes in a northwesterly direction. Troopers said the truck entered the paved median and struck the guardrail.
The truck then became airborne, traveled over the guardrail and entered the southbound lanes of I-95, troopers said.
While airborne, the truck struck the top of 56-year-old Pamela Thor's 2008 Honda Civic, which was traveling southbound in the inside travel lane. Troopers said the truck then struck the right-front of 53-year-old Michael Mervis's 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, which was traveling southbound in the center lane.
After colliding with the Silverado, the passenger in White's pickup, identified as 17-year-old Michael Smith, was ejected onto the outside travel lane, according to FHP.
Smith was taken to Halifax Health-Medical Center, where troopers said he died. According to FHP's report, Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. White and Smith, who were inside the 1500 pickup, are from Jacksonville.
Thor, of St. Augustine, was also killed in the crash, according to FHP.
