Ricocheted rifle bullet strikes Killearn Lakes Elementary school bus in Leon County, Florida
Ricocheted rifle round strikes Leon County school bus
Four students were on the bus at the time, and another four were beginning to board the vehicle, which was parked at the bus loop at the front of the school. It was at that moment the ammunition round shattered the glass, confirmed Leon County Schools Superintendent Jackie Pons. No one was injured.
While canvassing the surrounding area after the incident, deputies spoke to two men participating in an informal target practice in a wooded area near Thomasville Road, almost a mile away from the school. A rifle round had ricocheted off a target, they told the deputies, who then confirmed that the rounds there matched the consistency of the bullet found in the bus, said Lt. Grady Jordan, spokesman for the Leon County Sheriff's Office.
