Woman arrested after fatal bike crash in Clearwater.

A woman involved in a fatal motorcycle accident this weekend is in jail Monday morning, according to the Clearwater police report. She admitted she had been drinking alcohol before the crash.

According to an arrest affidavit, Hafford smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot and watery eyes. After her arrest, she admitted that she had consumed alcohol and taken prescription medication before the crash, police said.

Casandra Renita Hafford, 47, of Clearwater, was turning into Belleair Road from Missouri Avenue in her 2001 Buick Century when her car and a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle collided.

The motorcyclist, Michael B. Ballard, 24, died at the hospital. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

Hafford admitted she had been drinking on Sunday. She is charged with a DUI manslaughter and is remaining in jail Monday morning.

The intersection was closed for a couple of hours while the traffic homicide crews were investigating the crash.
