One dead after dual semi-truck crash in Polk Co.

The crash occurred when one truck driving southbound on HL Smith Road crashed into another tractor trailer heading eastbound on Lake Hatchineha Road. POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- One driver has died following a collision of two semi-trucks at the intersection of HL Smith Road and Lake Hatchineha Road in unincorporated Lake Hamilton around 11:05 a.m. According to the report, the intersection will be closed for several hours as crews work to remove the overturned semi-truck. Polk County Sheriff's Office has not released the identity of the driver pending next-of-kin notification. The second driver was not injured in the crash.

Santos didn't notice an orange DDI Transportation tractor-trailer heading eastbound on Lake Hatchineha Road, and as a result, Santos' tractor-trailer entered into the other's path. The two tractor-trailers collided, with the rear half of Santos' trailer being impacted by the front of the approaching semi in the intersection, causing both of them to spin.
