The Florida Highway Patrol is at the scene, and has been allowing vehicles stuck in the stretch to pass by in the emergency lanes, however drivers who have yet to hit the road are urged to avoid the area.

The impact of the crash sent the SUV into a median and the victim's Honda into a center lane. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt. Nicholas only suffered minor injures but Millan-Perez died at the scene.
At around 5 a.m. Wednesday on I-4 westbound near mile marker 38 in Polk County, a 21-year-old Orlando man was driving a Honda Accord when an SUV driven by Nick Nicholas of Kissimmee stopped in the lane in front of him. The Accord slammed into the back of Nicholas' vehicle, killing the 21-year-old Honda driver. Nicholas, 30, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Neither man was wearing a seat belt. At this time it is not known why Nicholas' SUV stopped in the roadway, but alcohol is suspected as a factor.
