Woman, 23, killed in single-car crash near Lakewood Ranch

A 23-year-old Sarasota woman was killed early Sunday when her car struck a utility pole off State Road 70, authorities said. Carly Lanea Cogan was traveling west on State Road 70, just east of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, around 1:40 a.m. when she lost control of her 2012 Kia Soul, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The car drifted off the road onto the north grass shoulder, then continued across a sidewalk onto a grass embankment, where it struck a concrete utility pole and fence.
