Woman dies in Plant City crash; heroes save two child passengers

PLANT CITY, Fla. -- A Plant City woman was killed in a car crash on Wilder Road Sunday morning, but the heroism of two men in saving two children from the scene prevented it from becoming worse. Patterson lives near the crash scene and flagged down Butts to help assist as they heard screams coming from the children. Two men, Ralph Patterson and Kirk Butts, responded to the crash and pulled Garcia's two child passengers, Giovanni Ibarra, age 5, and Jonathan Ibarra, age 1, from the wreckage. Garcia's minivan then traveled across the oncoming lane into a ditch and struck a TECO power pole. Patterson took Giovanni out of the vehicle while Butts recovered Jonathan, who was thrown from the car and landed in the muddy ditch.
