Passenger dies in one-car crash in St. Petersburg

A passenger died after a car overturned on 71st Street near 50th Avenue N Wednesday morning. A Florida Highway Patrol spokesman said Fielden B. Odell, 31 of Largo was driving a Dodge Ram truck south on 71st Street N and approaching 50th Avenue N about 7:40 a.m. Wednesday. Odell tried to pass another vehicle heading in the same direction, and hit the shoulder of the road. He overcorrected, travelled back across the street and rotated clockwise, according to the F.H.P. The truck then hit a culvert, flew into the air, turned over and hit a utility pole. One passenger traveling with Odell died at the scene. Odell was ejected from his vehicle and sustained minor injuries. He was treated at Bayfront Medical Center.
