Though FDOT says they haven't gotten any official petition, they've initiated a pedestrian crossing study on North Florida Avenue to determine if a crosswalk is justified based on the amount of people crossing the road.
A 55-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car while walking or standing on Florida Avenue. Leann Garrett, of Tampa, was transported to Tampa General Hospital where she died. Hope Wertley, 22, was driving a Ford Fusion on Florida Avenue in the outside lane approaching the intersection of Floral Avenue around 8:50 a.m. Sunday when the collision occurred.
