Leona Goldsmith killed, Estria Hochstadt, Thelma Kracov, Abate Achille, taken to hospital with serious injuries, after two car crash at intersection.

A 79-year-old woman from suburban Delray Beach died in a three-car crash less than a mile from her home Thursday afternoon, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s officials report this morning.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. at Linton Boulevard and Las Verdes Way. Leona Goldsmith was a passenger in a Volkswagen headed west on Linton Boulevard when the driver of an eastbound Toyota attempted a left turn onto Las Verdes and failed to yield to the oncoming car Goldsmith was in, according to traffic homicide investigators.

The crash report says the Volkswagen was struck on the driver’s side, but then the crash propelled the Volkswagen into another car stopped on Las Verdes, impacting the Volkswagen’s passenger side. Goldsmith died. Estria Hochstadt, 83, lived doors down from Goldsmith in the 500 block of Burgandy Way and was driving the Volkswagen when they crashed.

The Toyota that struck them was driven by Thelma Kracov, 85, of Philodendron Circle also in suburban Delray Beach. Both Hochstadt and Kracov were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. The passenger in the third vehicle, Abate Achille of Valhalla, N.Y., had minor injuries, investigators reported.
