Two people killed, one critically injured in wreck on Athens Loop

A black Nissan Sentra with five people was traveling on the inner loop when the driver lost control and over-corrected, causing the car to travel across the median and into the outer loop, where it hit a black Cadillac, according to McIlvaine. The two women who died and injured man, all from Snellville, were in the Nissan.

Cox's family did not want to make a public statement until they have an opportunity to talk with the families of the others involved, but said they believe the accident was weather-related.

Memorial Planned for South Gwinnett Crash Victims

Saturday's memorial is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the South Gwinnett baseball field. Cox was a softball player and bat girl for the school's baseball team and both young women loved the outdoors, friends and family members said.

Carefree, light-hearted and free-spirited were some of the descriptions of the duo that Cox’s mother, Dana, called inseparable. They enjoyed cookie dough, cheese toast and the outdoors, which is why the event was held at the baseball field.
