Man struck by multiple vehicles and killed on I-75/85 southbound in downtown Atlanta. One person arrested.

A man has been arrested after a man was struck and killed on the downtown connector in Atlanta Tuesday night.
The pedestrian was hit on I-75/85 near Williams Street according to Atlanta police. The preliminary investigation indicated the man was on the left shoulder of the southbound lanes before he attempted to cross the downtown connector.
Several vehicles struck the man. Two drivers stopped and waited for police to arrive. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene according to police.
Lee Watts, the driver who first struck the pedestrian, told police he did not see the victim until the last second and could not avoid striking him.
Watts was arrested and charged with driving while licensed expired and homicide by vehicle in the 2nd degree.
The wreck blocked three left lanes, and the HOV lane southbound on the connector, before Courtland Street. Those lanes were reopened by 1 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation.
