The horrific crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Farrington Highway near the Kahe Power Plant. A young mother and her toddler were killed along with a third passenger in the car. Family members say the person who was driving the car is the baby's father. He survived the crash and is recovering in the hospital. Police believe he may have been driving drunk. There were two adults and two children in the truck all of them survived. The driver has a broken leg but the others no major injuries. The family is still trying to piece together how 18-year-old Talofa Mene and niece Kawehikulani Kitiona were killed last night. Police are looking into speed and alcohol as possible factors in the crash that literally split a Honda Civic in half. They say the 20-year-old driver was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, but has since improved to serious condition. The family says the man is the boyfriend of the woman and father of the baby who were killed. The third person killed in the crash has not been identified. Honolulu police have opened a negligent homicide case. The driver remains hospitalized and has not been arrested.
