Mom accused of street racing with kids in car

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office is investigating a woman who was driving while intoxicated with a child in the car on Sunday.

The investigation is ongoing. Police have not said if Whitney will face additional charges for having a child in the car with her.

Whitney was charged with Excessive DUI, Reckless Driving, and Possession of a Controlled Substance, all misdemeanors. Though the children were not injured, deputies say the crash could have injured them, so Whitney was also issued a ticket for Injury to a Child, in addition to having no insurance, and the open container. 
Shariah L. Whitney was racing another vehicle at Spokane Street and West Riverview Drive when the vehicle she was racing lost control and struck a concrete island, then a parked car. When police arrived, she was arrested for driving under the influence. Her five-year-old daughter was with her while she was street racing, as was a 15-year-old child.
