Macon County authorities say an early-morning single vehicle crash has left one man dead.

Accident kills one; two escape

Two men managed to escape the vehicle and sought help from a nearby home. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death. The victim's name has not yet been released pending notification of the family.

Driver in submerged car dies

Two 19-year-old male passengers were able to escape and summon help about 3:40 a.m. and told Macon County sheriff's deputies that the driver was still inside the car submerged in the pond.

Coroner identifies man who died in Tuesday morning crash

The Macon County Coroner has released the identity of a Decatur man who died in a single-vehicle crash on April 7.
A 21-year-old Decatur man identified as Blake Gilliam was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash at about 4:39 a.m. Tuesday. The vehicle left the roadway and went into a pond near the intersection of Bearsdale Road and Pershing Road.  Two other individuals were able to get out of the partially-submerged vehicle and asked for help from nearby residents, but by the time Gilliam could be recovered, he had passed away. The coroner confirmed that the cause of his death was drowning.
