Basketball team rescued after floodwaters sweep school bus into retention pond on Highway 161 at North County Road near Mascoutah, Illinois

School bus, tractor trailer swept into pond in Mascoutah

The incident took place on Highway 161 at N. County Road, south of Scott Air Force Base. Sixteen people were on the bus, which included 12 students and four adults. People at the scene tell Fox 2's Chris Higgins the students were members of the Mount Vernon High School girls' basketball team.

In total, 18 people were rescued and no injuries were reported. The Illinois State Police, Mascoutah, Belleville, and St. Clair County, Illinois officials all responded to the scene.
