Elderly Man Struck And Killed By SUV InNiles

CHICAGO (STMW) — An 84-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV Friday morning in north suburban Niles. The driver of the Durango, a 56-year-old Evanston man, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. The man was walking north in a crosswalk in the 8900 block of Golf Road in Niles when a Dodge Durango, headed west on Golf, hit him in the center lane, according to a statement from Niles police. The man was dead at the scene, police said. No charges or citations had been filed as of Friday morning.

Richard S. Stern of Niles was walking to the Meijer grocery store on the 9000 block of West Golf Road in Niles when he was struck at about 6 a.m. in the center lane by a Dodge Durango that had been traveling westbound through a green traffic light, according to Niles police Sgt. Robert Tornabene.
