Conrad, a Marion County Sheriff's Department correctional officer, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The teen, a 17-year-old boy from Salem, was transferred to a regional hospital for treatment.
The semi driver was not injured.
Illinois State Police say parts of the interstate were covered in snow and conditions were slick at the time of the crash. Traffic on I-57 was diverted for approximately six hours as crews worked to reconstruct the accident and clear the scene.
