TWO SIU STUDENTS KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISSION
Carbondale Police say at about 7:45 a.m., two trucks collided head-on on US 51 between West Willow Street and Dillinger Road. Gustaveson and Martinez were headed north. The single occupant of the southbound vehicle was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Officers from the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to a traffic crash in the 1500 block of North Illinois Avenue on Monday morning around 7:45 a.m.

Wolfgang W. Gustaveson, 19, of Park Ridge and Francis M. Martinez, 18, of Des Plaines died in the traffic crash, according to the Carbondale Police Department. They were both attending Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and living on campus.
