The northbound driver in a northwest Indiana two-car crash that killed two people Sunday night went left of center, striking an oncoming vehicle, according to the Porter County Sheriff's Department.

Drivers Laurel Donner, 56, of Valparaiso, and Jessica Trzepacz, 33, of Michigan City, were both pronounced dead at the scene and had to be extricated from their cars, police stated.

Trzepacz was northbound at 700 W. Ind. 2, on a curve in the road in Boone Township just north of Hebron, when the accident occurred. Donner was southbound; a passenger in her car, John Donner, 62, of Valparaiso, was transported to Porter Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After further investigation of roadway evidence and discussion with a witness at the scene at the time of the 7:30 p.m. accident, police determined Trzepacz caused the crash, said Sgt. Larry LaFlower, public information officer with the sheriff's department.

Toxicology reports to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash are pending.

Assisting at the scene were the Valparaiso and Hebron police departments, as well as fire departments from Hebron, Boone Grove, and Lakes of the Four Seasons. Porter EMS also assisted, as did the Porter County Coroner's Office.
