A bus carrying the Bellarmine University men’s basketball team was involved in a minor hit-and-run accident on Interstate 65 near Merrillville, Ind., on its way to a game at Wisconsin-Parkside Wednesday night, the university said in a release.

No injuries were reported in connection with the accident, which happened at about 8:10 p.m. Wednesday.

The accident happened when a truck pulling a rental trailer lost control on the highway and clipped the front right side of the bus, knocking off the side-view mirror, the university said.

The bus pulled over after the impact but the truck continued on, the release said. Debris from the side view mirror knocked off in the accident caused tire damage to a truck and car following the bus but did not cause any injuries.

The bus was able to continue on to Merrillville where the team stayed overnight before continuing on to Kenosha, Wis., Thursday morning on a new bus dispatched overnight from Indianapolis, the university said.

The team’s 12:30 p.m. practice and 8:30 p.m. game will go on as scheduled.
