Two workers killed in I-69 accident Kenneth Duerson and Coty DeMoss were killed in the crash. Stafford had a previous conviction on drug-related charges and was on probation at the time of the crash. When Stafford failed a drug test, the judge ordered his probation be extended for up to two years or until he completes drug and alcohol treatment. Later, the work release was changed to home detention, and the court suggested that Community Corrections increase his alcohol testing.

Construction workers killed in Ind. interstate crash

Police say two highway workers removing traffic restrictions after overnight paving were killed when a pickup truck crashed into them along Interstate 69 on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

The crash happened about 6 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of the highway a couple miles north of I-465. The crash caused traffic to back up more than a mile in the heavily traveled suburban area.

State police Sgt. Sgt. Rich Myers says the two workers for a contractor were almost done removing cones from the roadway when the truck ran into an arrow board that hit them.

Jordan Stafford of Fortville learned his sentence Wednesday after a jury last month found him guilty of two counts of reckless operation of a vehicle in a highway work zone.

Police say two highway workers have been killed after a pickup truck crashed in an Interstate 69 construction zone on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

The crash happened about 6 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of the highway a couple miles north of I-465.

Video from Indianapolis television station helicopters showed a wrecked pickup truck amid several construction vehicles, with morning commute traffic backed up for more than a mile.

State highway department spokesman Nathan Riggs tells WISH-TV those who died worked for a contractor doing overnight paving work and were removing lane restrictions when the crash happened.

It wasn't immediately clear how badly the pickup driver was injured.
