Motorcyclist seriously injured when he swerved to avoid crash on Rockingham Road

A motorcyclist hit a curb and was thrown after trying to avoid a crash with a car that ran a stop sign, according to police. The motorcyclist swerved to avoid being hit and ended up striking the north curb; he was thrown from his motorcycle. They found that the motorcyclist had been seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital before being airlifted to Iowa City, Bladel said. The car did not obey a stop sign at the intersection of Rockingham Road and Sturdevant Street in Davenport, Iowa, and drove into the path of the motorcycle, said Capt. The car involved in the incident was later stopped by police and was cited for failing to stop/yield from a stop sign and expired registration, according to Bladel.

80-year-old motorcyclist dies after crash on Rockingham Road

An 80-year-old man has died of injuries he suffered when he was thrown from his motorcycle in a crash in Davenport, Iowa. Saturday, August 8, at a hospital in Iowa City, according to Davenport Police Department Captain Jeffery Bladel. Police cited the car driver for failing to stop for a stop sign and for expired registration, Bladel previously said. Butler was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted to Iowa City for treatment of serious injuries. Police said Ralph Butler swerved to avoid being hit by a car that had run a stop sign at the intersection of Rockingham Road and Sturdevant Street just after 2 p.m.
