Charles City fire chief hits elderly woman in crosswalk

The sheriff says Whipple wasn’t responding to an emergency at the time of the accident.
Charles City Fire Chief Eric Whipple, driving a department vehicle, struck Gladys Kellogg Tuesday in a downtown crosswalk. Kellogg is listed in fair condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Whipple made left turn when a light changed from red to green, but Kellogg also had a green signal to cross. Whipple told authorities that he just didn’t see Kellogg when he made the turn. Whipple has not been charged.
