Repeat drunk driver sentenced to 20 yrs. after 2014 crash

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- A repeat drunk driver will spend 20 years in prison for an accident that injured a pregnant woman and her two children. Sixty-five-year-old Russell Mullins was drunk when he blew through a red light, hitting Sara Neathamer, her six-year-old daughter and three-year-old son. Sara Neathamer was six-months pregnant and needed an emergency cesarean section. Mullins was sentenced to 20 years in prison without probation. It happened in Sept. 2014 as the family was leaving a performance of "Disney on Ice" at the KFC Yum Center.

Police said Russell Mullins was driving drunk when he ran a red light and slammed into Sara and her two children. She was six months pregnant. The impact of the crash forced her to have an emergency cesarian section at the hospital.

Metro Corrections said 64-year-old Russell Mullins of New Albany, Ind., was charged with driving under the influence, three counts of first-degree assault and two counts of wanton endangerment.

Sara Neathamer is in stable condition after being struck by alleged drunk driver Russell Mullins, 64, while leaving Disney on Ice with her children on Wednesday. She was six months pregnant at the time of the accident, and she delivered a baby boy and named him Nathan. Nathan is currently on a respirator but is in stable condition. Neathamer's daughter Shyanne, 6, has a skull fracture, broken hand, and broken leg. Jayden, 3,  has cuts and scrapes.
