Head-on wreck kills Loreauville mayor, injures 4

A town’s mayor was killed and four others were taken to a hospital in a head-on crash near New Iberia on Friday night, State Police said.

Two of them -- Forrest Simon, 34 and his passenger, Catherine Derouen, 26 -- were cited for seatbelt violations, while the youth was cited for a driver’s obstruction violation.

During the investigation it was determined a juvenile in Simon's vehicle grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it, causing the vehicle to cross the centerline into the westbound lane.
Head-on collision killed Loreauville's mayor, Albert Broussard, and injured four other people after an adolescent jerked the steering wheel of a truck. According to Master Trooper Brooks David the 65-year-old Albert Broussard was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 62 year old Phyllis Savoy, who is now hospitalized due to critical injuries. David says the youth and 26 year old Catherine Derouen, were passengers in a truck driven by 34 year old Forrest Simon. All three were injured in the crash on Louisiana Highway 86 in Loreauville, Louisiana. David says the youth was cited with obstructing the driving mechanism, and the adults were cited with failure to wear seat belts.
