William Ziebel, 60, killed in motorcycle crash with tractor trailer on River Road on May 16.

A 60-year-old Waggaman's man was killed Friday evening in St. Charles Parish after authorities say his motorcycle collided with an 18-wheeler on River Road near Airport Lane.

According to the Louisiana State Police, William Ziebel apparently crossed the center lane as he was traveling west on River Road shortly after 5 p.m. and struck the front of a 2012 Freightliner driven by Russell Mason, 61, of Marrero.

Ziebel was critically injured and was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Ziebel was wearing a novelty helmet that was not Department of Transportation approved, State Police report. His speed is a suspected factor in the crash, authorities said.

Mason was not injured in the accident.
