Harry Daigle III, 34, killed, after he is struck by a car, driven by 21-year-old woman, while walking on I-10 in Metairie.
State Police identify pedestrian killed on Interstate 10 in Metairie Wednesday.
State Police investigators have identified the pedestrian killed while walking on Interstate 10 in Metairie Wednesday morning (April 22) as Harry Daigle III, 34, of Metairie. Daigle was hit by a car on westbound I-10 just west of the Veterans Memorial Boulevard on-ramp, said Trooper Melissa Matey, spokesman for the department.
Initial reports stated that the accident occurred on the Veterans on-ramp. "He had already crossed the on-ramp and was walking in the right-hand lane," Matey said.
A 21-year-old Kenner woman driving a 1998 Saturn SL westbound in that lane hit Daigle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police shut down the Veterans on-ramp and one lane of I-10 to investigate the incident. Investigators did not cite the driver. She had no detectable alcohol in her system and her speed wasn't considered a factor in the wreck, according to Matey.
"(Daigle) was walking on the interstate, which is illegal," Matey said.
State law bars pedestrians from traveling in interstate lanes and the highway shoulders. That law also applies to drivers who have suffered a break down. Instead of walking, Matey suggested drivers call for help from either a friend, a tow truck or the State Police.
