Missing firefighter found in Metairie canal saddens Jefferson Parish firemen

The Jefferson Sheriff's Office said just before 7:30 a.m. Friday (April 10) morning officers received reports of a vehicle in a canal near the intersection West Esplanade Avenue and Hessmer Avenue in the Metairie area. Jefferson Parish Fire Department firefighters rushed to the scene and looked on as JPSO divers removed the pickup truck of one of their own missing firefighters from the canal.

Firefighter David Yeomans' body submerged in Metairie canal for days, JP coroner says

Yeomans, a 10-year veteran of the East Bank Consolidated Fire Department, was off duty at the time of his disappearance and not scheduled to return to work until Saturday.
A 2005 Toyota Tacoma was discovered partially submerged in the canal around 7:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of West Esplanade and Hessmer avenues. Divers found and discovered the body of the driver, a man, inside the car. It appears that the Tacoma was northbound on Hessmer and when it reached the intersection with West Esplanade, it drove directly into the canal. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
