The southbound side of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway has reopened after a 30-minute closure due to an accident. Two vehicles were involved in the accident at mile marker 17, about seven miles from the north shore.

Bridge General Manager Carlton Dufrechou said the wreck happened after one vehicle rear-ended another vehicle in the right lane. The vehicle that was rear ended was having mechanical problems, he said, and was traveling slowly. The second vehicle was approaching rapidly from behind, he said.
The drivers of both vehicles received minor injuries, Dufrechou said.
