Shreveport police are investigating a crash that sent two pedestrians to the hospital Wednesday afternoon. Just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Shreveport police were called to the 1600 block of Kings Highway after a reported vehicle crash involving two pedestrians. Janette Johnson, 55, had been struck and pinned beneath a vehicle traveling eastbound along the 1600 block of Kings Highway. Johnson, who was not responsive following the crash, was rushed to University Health Medical Center where she remains in critical condition. Johnson's 5-year-old grandson, identified as Messiah Johnson, was also struck by the east bound vehicle; however his injuries were considered to be non-life threatening. He too remains hospitalized at University Health Medical Center in serious but stable condition. Shreveport police crash investigators were notified and immediately responded to the scene of the accident. During a probe of the crash, authorities spoke with witnesses who said Johnson and the child were attempting to cross the street when they were struck by the vehicle that was entering the roadway from a private parking lot. Authorities gathered information suggesting both pedestrians were attempting to cross the street without the benefit of using the crosswalk. The vehicle involved in the crash was a 2003 Cadillac CTS, driven by 67-year-old Justine Baker of Shreveport. Baker, who was uninjured in the crash was transported to University Health Medical Center for routine toxicological testing in accordance to state law. The investigation into the accident remains underway.
