Bangor woman injured in I-95 moose collision

HOWLAND, Maine — A Bangor woman was injured and a moose killed after her vehicle struck the large animal on Interstate 95 Monday night, state police said. The interstate was shut down for about an hour so the LifeFlight helicopter could land. Shawna Newton, 22, was traveling south when she struck the adult moose around mile 221 shortly before 5:30 p.m., Trooper Taylor Dube said. Newton suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center. The moose, which Dube estimated weighed between 700 and 800 pounds, was killed.
