The crash was reported at 5:44 p.m. on Route 1 in front of the Downeaster Motel, according to Scarborough police Sgt. John O’Malley. The woman was crossing Route 1 during heavy rain and was not in a crosswalk, O’Malley said.

Scarborough Police say 76-year-old Judith Schwerdtfeger started crossing the road around 5:45 p.m. to visit relatives in a nearby hotel.
