A 61-year-old woman and an 8-year-old girl were struck on a sidewalk by a vehicle involved in a three-car crash on Monday afternoon in Roxbury near Boston police headquarters, officials said.

The two were hit at about 3:45 p.m. near Tremont and Prentiss streets, police said.

David Estrada, a police spokesman, said the woman suffered a leg injury and the girl had minor cuts on her hands.

The relationship between the woman and girl was not immediately clear.

The two were rushed to Boston hospitals, along with two other people involved in the accident.

Their condition also was not known Monday night.

The victims were taken to Boston Medical Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, said a spokesman for Boston Emergency Medical Services.

Estrada said witnesses indicated that one driver ran a red light and struck another vehicle that was in the middle of the intersection. One of those vehicles was pushed onto the sidewalk and struck the woman and the girl.

Two badly damaged vehicles remained visible at the scene around 5 p.m.

Police were directing traffic on Tremont Street, a busy thoroughfare, while investigators examined the wreckage.
