Police discovered a crashed car in the woods. It is unclear how long the car had been in the woods.

State troopers assigned to District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.'s office, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section out of the Holden barracks and the Crime Scene Services Section, responded to the accident.

Greenville police said Mr. MacFadyen's cellphone “pinged” a tower in Worcester. He was last seen Tuesday in Scarborough, Maine, before he left in his 2004 silver Chevy Impala bound for Elmont, N.Y.

“We regret to report that Elmer MacFadyen was found deceased approximately 40 yards off of the highway in Shrewsbury, MA,” Greenville police said in a news release. “Our sincere condolences go out to the family.”

Worcester police spent much of Wednesday searching in and around the Country Club Boulevard area for the silver 2004 Chevrolet Impala that Mr. MacFadyen was driving. Police were also on the lookout for the vehicle along I-290.
