Jeffrey Merigian 50, killed when his car crashes into guardrail and power pole at high speed on snowy roadway in Hampden County.

Springfield police have disclosed the name of the Hampden man who died in a car crash in the city.

Police on Friday identified the man who died in the crash just before 1 a.m. Tuesday as 50-year-old Jeffrey Merigian.

Responding officers found a 2013 Cadillac CTS with heavy front end damage on the sidewalk and snow bank near a restaurant. A large section of the guardrail that was struck was protruding from the front windshield. Officers were not able to get to the driver right away because of downed power lines. Once it was safe to do so, EMTs checked the driver and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation but police believe speed was a factor.
