Police said members of the state Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control as the left travel lane on the eastbound side in the area of the crash was closed for several hours to facilitate the investigation.

A driver was killed and a passenger is severely hurt after the van they were traveling in crashed on the Massachusetts Turnpike Sunday morning. The accident happened around 7:55 a.m. on the eastbound lane of I-90 near the 39-mile marker, what appears to be caused by the driver losing control of the vehicle. The accident is still under investigation.
