Preliminary exam set for Highland teenager charged in accident that killed Keego Harbor bicyclist

The Highland woman charged in a May accident that led to the death of a bicyclist from Keego Harbor is scheduled for preliminary exam on Thursday, Oct. 1, in Oakland County'€™s 48th District Court. Iams is expected to appear in front of 48th District Judge Marc Barron at 9 a.m. for a preliminary exam in the case. Savannah Iams, 18, is charged with operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death in the May 23 incident that claimed the life of Bobby Horvath, 50, who was cycling while he was hit. Some argued Oakland County needs bike lanes, but others contended that cyclists should stay away from all roads. He was well known in the community for being a funny person, a reliable employee and having a positive attitude.

Bobby Horvath, 50s, was killed after being struck by a car while cycling on Commerce Road in Orchard Lake Village.  According to reports Horvath was out fishing with a friend before riding his bicycle when he was hit from behind by a vehicle near Dow Ridge Road at around 7:30 p.m.  A GoFundMe page was set up to raise funds for funeral services for the victim.
