Police identify 2 people killed in wrong-way head-on crash on U.S. 127 in Isabella County

U.S. 127 was shut down from the Rosebush exit to the M-20 exit in Mount Pleasant for more than two hours. The Michigan State Police, Mount Pleasant Police Department, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, Shepherd Police, Mount Pleasant Fire/Rescue, Mobile Medical Response and LifeNet assisted the sheriff's department.

The crash happened at 10:56 p.m. on southbound U.S. 127 near Baseline Road, temporarily closing all lanes, the Michigan Department of Transportation reported.

Dr. Kuhnert, an anesthesiologist in Lansing, and Ms. Andary, were returning home following a student hockey game in Gladwin, MI. 
Officials have identified Ryan Michael Tree and Scott Michael Kuhnert who were killed when a truck traveling the wrong way caused a three-vehicle collision on southbound  U.S. 127 in Isabella County at 10:14 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, south of Baseline Road. A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ryan Michael Tree, 41, of Shepherd was traveling north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 127 when it crashed head-on with a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. Scott Michael Kuhnert, 45, of Bath was driving the Volkswagen, which subsequently hit a 2010 Ford Focus driven by Joshua Mark Watters, 21, of Mount Pleasant. Ryan Michael Tree and Scott Michael Kuhnert died at the scene of the collision. A passenger in Kuhnert's vehicle, Ellen Monahan Andary, 57, of Bath, was transported by helicopter to Sparrow Hospital with serious injuries. Watters, the Ford Focus driver, suffered minor injuries and was transported to McLaren Central Michigan.
